S.L. Distribution Roadmap

This page is to give a overview of what releases Scientific Linux has released, and what they plan on releasing. It also gives the support periods for each of these releases.

Support Statement

Scientific Linux plans to do security updates as long as the The Upstream Vendor (TUV) continues releasing updates and patches. The support end dates listed below are based on our current understanding of TUV's support schedule.
Individual Scientific Linux "sites" may have their own roadmap, policies, or support plans. Please check with your local support.

Scientific Linux 3.0.x

Scientific Linux 3 is no longer supported and is no longer on our roadmap.

Scientific Linux 4.x

Scientific Linux 4 is no longer supported and is no longer on our roadmap.

Scientific Linux 5.x

Notes:
* - release of S.L. depends on when the Vendors Enterprise Update comes out.
** - At the time of this writing we do not know how many releases of S.L. 5.x we will be doing.
*** We plan on following the TUV Life Cycle. Provided TUV continues to make the source rpms publicly available.

There is a caveat to the above roadmaps. This is just a plan. We do not, and cannot, guarantee our plan. There are too many factors for us to guarantee it. One of the possibilities is that the source rpm's from the Vendors Enterprise release will become unavailable. There are other factors that also may prevent a guarantee.
