Added 4.4

Packages that were added to Scientific Linux 4.4

We have added several packages to Scientific Linux 4.3 that were not in the Scientific Linux 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or 4.3 releases.

Summary : CFITSIO is a library of C and FORTRAN subroutines for reading and writing data files in FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) data format
Added for the astonomy community. This is not installed by default.

Summary : With FUSE it is possible to implement a fully functional filesystem in a userspace program. fuse modules fuse-smb and fuse-sshfs are included as well.
fuse-smb: you can seamlessly browse your network neighbourhood as if it were on your own filesystem. Only when you're accessing a share is a connection made to the remote computer. This also allows users to mount smb shares using kerberos.
fuse-sshfs: A FUSE-filesystem client based on the SSH File Transfer Protocol. On the client side mounting the filesystem is as easy as logging into the server with ssh.
This is not installed by default.

Summary : ipw3945 firmware, kernel module, and deamon needed to make the Intel ipw3945 wireless work.
Note that the installer does NOT know how to enable the 3945 wireless. You will have to add the starting of the /sbin/ipw3945d in your startup scripts.
This was added because many new laptops have this wireless chipset. This is installed by default.

Summary : madfifi is the Multiband Atheros Driver for WiFi, a linux device driver for 802.11a/b/g universal NIC cards - either Cardbus, PCI or MiniPCI - that use Atheros chipsets (ar5210, ar5211, ar5212).
Currently this is for i386 only.
This was added because many wireless cards use this chipset. This is not installed by default.

Summary : NumPy derives from the old Numeric code base and can be used as a replacement for Numeric. It also adds the features introduced by Numarray and can also be used to replace Numarray.
Added for the scientific community. This is not installed by default.

Summary : R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. It is a GNU project which is similar to the S language and environment. There are some important differences, but much code written for S runs unaltered under R.
Added for the scientific community. This is not installed by default.
